CHATS Community Arts Showcase A Success
CHATS Community & Home Assistance to Seniors recently held its first Community Arts Showcase, a platform in which seniors were able to showcase their artistic side. The community joined the event as well as some distinguished guests. The day was a great success with 26 Artists as well as artist submissions from Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Older Adult Mental Health Program. A total of 85 pieces were submitted for the event.
Seniors 55 + years old were invited to submit their artwork, from the community. Special Keynote Speaker, Adrien McKenna, from the Ontario Caregiver Organization, discussed how to enhance well-being through social prescribing, followed by CHATS Staff member Juanita Butler presenting an overview of CHATS programs and services.
The event speakers were CHATS CEO Christina Bisanz, Minister Tibollo, and MPP Dawn Gallagher-Murphy, to say a few words also.
Organized by the CHATS Caregiver Education Team and staff member Alexis Gada, the event was held at the Aurora Legion on Saturday, January 18th. Alexis was inspired by a client about her past involvement in art, and thought this would be an amazing opportunity for seniors to get involved to showcase their talent.
Thanks to all of those who showcased their art and were a part of this great event. Your artistic ability is amazing and we are so happy that you were able to show your creative side, while having fun. There was also an opportunity to taste test some Meals On Wheels soup.
