Thanks To CHATS Volunteers As We Recognize & Celebrate Volunteer Week
In recognition of National Volunteer Week, CHATS-Community & Home Assistance to Seniors proudly hosted a series of Volunteer Appreciation Luncheons. These gatherings provided a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the dedication, compassion, and impact of the volunteers who are at the heart of CHATS’ work.
Held at Mandarin Restaurant locations in Newmarket, Markham, and Vaughan, the luncheons brought together volunteers from across the regions-many meeting one another for the first time, despite sharing a common commitment to supporting older adults in the community. The energy in the room was warm and uplifting, reflecting the strong sense of connection and purpose that defines the CHATS volunteer community.
The events featured remarks from CHATS leadership, including CEO Christina Bisanz, Vice President, Client Care and Services Melanie Rowe, Board Chair Avi Parmar, and Vice Chair Grant Waddell, who expressed their deep appreciation for the invaluable contributions made by volunteers throughout the year. Together, volunteers contribute thousands of hours annually-equivalent to a significant number of full-time staff, helping to ensure that older adults can continue to live independently and with dignity in their homes.
A highlight of each luncheon was the Service Award Ceremony, where volunteers were recognized for reaching milestones of five, ten, fifteen, twenty, and twenty-five years of service. These milestones reflect not only years of dedication, but a lasting commitment to supporting others and strengthening the community over time.
While the numbers are impressive, what stood out most during the celebrations were the personal connections and everyday moments that volunteers create-whether it’s a friendly conversation at the door during a meal delivery, a reassuring phone call, or the welcoming presence at a social program. These moments, though small in scale, have a profound impact on the well-being and sense of belonging of the individuals CHATS serves.
The Volunteer Appreciation Luncheons were more than just a celebration-they were a reflection of the strong, caring community that volunteers help to build every day. CHATS extends heartfelt thanks to each volunteer for their time, generosity, and unwavering commitment.
