CHATS offers a variety of meaningful volunteer opportunities that allows you to support older adults within communities across York Region and South Simcoe. We will work together with you to find the volunteer role that best suits your schedule, interests and skillset.

   All volunteer positions require individuals to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and to follow health and safety guidelines and procedures, as per Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC).

 

Volunteer Transportation Driver

Help local seniors by driving them for personal errands, including medical appointments, grocery shopping and more. Volunteers can choose their own schedule, use their own vehicles, and are reimbursed for kms travelled. Local and long-distance drives available.

Time Commitment: Flexible, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements: Clean driver’s abstract, valid driver’s license and insurance, vulnerable sector check.

Level of Client Interaction: High, direct contact

Location: Flexible, throughout York Region, South Simcoe and GTA.

Adult Day Program Volunteer

Support senior health and wellness by assisting staff with various program activities which may include: greeting and escorting clients, preparing and serving snacks/lunch/refreshments, co-facilitation of programs and socializing. Volunteers may be interacting with older adults with mild to moderate cognitive impairment/dementia/memory loss.

Time Commitment: Flexible, 3 or 6 hour shifts available, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements: Vulnerable sector check, minimum 16 years of age.

Aurora Adult Day Program

Bradford Adult Day Program

Location: Holland St. W/Simcoe Rd.

Richmond Hill Adult Day Programs

Location: Yonge St./Major Mackenzie Dr.

Vaughan Adult Day Programs

Location: Jane St./Rutherford Rd.

Woodbridge Adult Day Program

This Program is designed to meet the culturally specific needs of frail older adults of the Italian community.
Location: Steeles Ave. W./Islington Ave.

Newcomer South Asian Adult Day Program

This Program is designed to meet the culturally specific needs of frail older adults of the South Asian community.
Location: Yonge St./Elgin Mills Rd. E.

Arirang Adult Day Program

This Program is designed to meet the culturally specific needs of frail older adults of the Korean community.
Location: Steeles Ave. E./Victoria Park Ave.

Friendly Visiting Volunteer

Provide friendly visits to older adults at risk of social isolation and participate in activities that are of interest to the client(s). Visits may take place either in the client’s home or at a nearby public location.

Time Commitment: Flexible -1 hour per week, minimum 6 months

Requirements: Vulnerable sector check, minimum 18 years of age

Level of Client Interaction: High, direct contact

Location: Flexible – throughout York Region, South Simcoe and GTA.

Telephone Reassurance Volunteer

Connect with older adults that are at risk of social isolation by making phone calls on a regular basis to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

Time Commitment: Flexible, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements: Vulnerable sector check, minimum 18 years of age

Level of Client Interaction: High, indirect contact

Location: Virtual, Work From Home

Office Volunteer

Provide administrative support by carrying out general office and reception duties which may include welcoming and greeting visitors, data collection/entry, contacting clients/volunteers, preparation of mailings, and more.

Time Commitment: Flexible, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements: Consent to a background check, minimum 16 years of age

Level of Client Interaction: Low, indirect contact

Location: 240 Edward Street, Suite 1 (Aurora)

Location: 448 Holland Street West (Bradford)

Event Volunteer

Help support the work we do by representing us at a variety of events in the community throughout the year. Duties may include event set up/tear down, registration, hosting on-site interactive games, and promoting awareness of CHATS programs/services. Training is provided.

Time Commitment: Flexible, daytime, evening or weekend availability

Requirements: Age requirements may apply and are dependent on the event

Level of Client Interaction: Low, indirect contact

Location: Flexible – throughout York Region, South Simcoe

Board Member

Represent CHATS to help further our mission and vision with successful candidates also supporting, and be involved with fundraising activities, acting as an ambassador for CHATS in the community and sharing their network with our organization. Sub-Committee positions also exist in the areas of Governance, Finance and Quality & Safety.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per month, 3-year term

Requirements: Must live or work in York Region/South Simcoe areas, consent to a background check

Level of Client Interaction: Low, indirect contact

Location: Virtual with occasional in-person meetings at our Aurora Head Office or in the communities we serve.

Social & Wellness Volunteer Driver

Support older adults that are at risk of social isolation by driving and physically escorting clients to lunch clubs & social programs. Volunteers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed for kms travelled.

Time Commitment: Flexible, Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Location: Flexible, throughout York Region and South Simcoe

Social & Wellness Program Volunteer

Support senior health and wellness by assisting staff with various social & wellness program activities which may include: greeting and escorting clients, preparing and serving snacks/lunch/refreshments, co-facilitation of programs and socializing. We are also seeking bilingual volunteers with culturally diverse backgrounds to help us meet the needs of clients, specifically within the Russian, Italian, South Asian, Korean, Iranian communities.

Time Commitment: Flexible, 3-4 hour shifts. Monday-Friday between 8:30am-4:30pm

Requirements: Vulnerable sector check, minimum 16 years of age

Level of Client Interaction: High, direct contact

Location: Flexible, throughout York Region and South Simcoe

Community Ambassador

Represent CHATS at a variety of events, health fairs and speaking engagements in the community throughout the year. Duties may include hosting on-site interactive games, giving presentations, and promoting awareness of CHATS programs/services. Training is provided.

Time Commitment: Flexible, daytime, evening or weekend availability

Our Adult Day Programs and Outreach Programs are always looking for talented individuals to provide a variety of entertainment to enhance the client experience. High school students are welcome to apply. Examples include: Musicians, Entertainers, Artists, Guest Speakers, Animal Therapy Expert, Fitness Instructor, etc.
