Raising Our Flag, Honouring Our Seniors: CHATS Celebrates Across York Region & South Simcoe

This June, CHATS – Community & Home Assistance to Seniors proudly celebrated Seniors Month by raising our flag in eight towns and cities across York Region and South Simcoe. From Aurora to Vaughan, each flag raising served as a powerful reminder of the vital role older adults play in our communities and CHATS’ ongoing commitment to supporting them as they age at home with dignity, independence, and connection.

With gratitude and pride, we joined mayors, councillors, MPPs, and community partners in Aurora, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Vaughan, Newmarket, New Tecumseth, and Richmond Hill to mark this special occasion. Each event was more than symbolic it was a call to action to recognize, support, and celebrate the contributions of older adults in every corner of our region.

Investing in Active Living for Seniors
Alongside these celebrations, CHATS is thrilled to acknowledge continued investment in our Seniors Active Living Centres (SALCs) through funding from the Province of Ontario. These centres play a crucial role in promoting healthy aging by offering programs that reduce social isolation, support physical activity, and create meaningful community engagement for older adults.
In particular, we’re excited to expand programming in Beeton, where a new SALC location will bring accessible wellness and recreational opportunities to seniors in the South Simcoe area. This work would not be possible without the support of provincial leaders like MPP Brian Saunderson and Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho, who joined us to officially announce this new investment in local seniors’ health and wellbeing.

Looking Ahead
As we reflect on this year’s Seniors Month celebrations, we remain deeply committed to advocating for services that allow older adults to age where they want to be—at home and in their communities. We thank every municipality, community partner, and elected official who stood with us this June. Together, we are building a region that truly values and supports its aging population.
