About CHATS: Your Supportive Community Partner
Who We Are
CHATS is a respected not-for-profit organization serving older adults and caregivers across York Region and South Simcoe. For more than four decades, CHATS has delivered person-centred services that help seniors remain independent and socially engaged in their own homes and communities.
What We Do
Through services like Meals on Wheels, respite dementia care, and language interpretation, CHATS adapts to the needs and lives of seniors with empathy, expertise, and creativity.
Our Response in Times of Need
During the pandemic, when social isolation deeply affected many, CHATS spearheaded a collaborative outreach effort. Together with seven partners, we engaged 514 isolated seniors, helping them stay socially connected during a time when many felt alone.
This success underscores CHATS commitment to not just providing help, but creating warm, connected communities exactly what the new SALC in Beeton will continue.
Why Staying Active and Connected Matters – Backed by the Numbers
One in Five Feel Lonely
Nearly 19% of seniors aged 65 and older reported experiencing loneliness in 2019-2020, with women (23%) more likely than men (15%) to feel this way.
Barriers to Social Participation
About 24% of older Canadians would like to participate in more social activities but face obstacles those who experience such barriers are almost three times more likely to feel lonely.
At Risk of Social Isolation
Around 30% of Canadian seniors are considered at risk of social isolation, and up to 16% already feel socially isolated.
The Power of Engagement
Research shows that seniors who participate in more social activities are significantly more likely to report better health, less loneliness, and greater life satisfaction even after accounting for age, income, and other factors.
These numbers aren’t just statistics they reflect the real difference the SALC can make in your life: helping you stay physically active, emotionally supported, learning new things, and deeply connected with others.
