Diversity Wellness & Outreach Programs
Are you feeling disconnected from your community? It can be hard to feel alone or isolated from your home country, friends, and family. We empathize.
That’s why we’ve developed Diversity, Wellness, & Outreach Programs tailored to help older adults connect, socialize, and maintain good physical and mental health.
For more information including eligibility and fees, please refer to the program fact sheet: Diverse Older Adults Outreach Programs.
CHATS is now offering many of our supports virtually!
CHATS Diverse Older Adults Outreach Programs promote wellbeing and integration activities for groups of older adults from the following cultural/linguistic groups:
- Chinese (Cantonese)
- South Asian
Programs utilize a holistic approach to wellness, providing clients with opportunities for social interaction, a celebration of cultural events, and the development of resource networks—including information on health, exercise, and well-being in their own language.
Meals & Transportation
Programs may provide a culturally appropriate snack or meal. Transportation is provided for a fee where available.
My son and his wife both work full-time, so I was alone by myself most of the time. Because of the language barrier, I was unable to make new friends. And because of my isolation, I became depressed and had to obtain medication from my doctor to cope. Then, a year-and-a-half ago, I saw an ad for the Diversity Outreach Program for Iranian seniors in the paper and decided to join. After a few months of participation, I had grown much happier. I even decided to stop taking my medication because I no longer felt depressed. I have made many friends and now I often go out to socialize, talk on the phone and lead an active, healthy life.
