CHATS Wellness Program Plans a Return to Egypt Hall

Before the pandemic, CHATS’ Georgina Wellness Program was a vibrant weekly gathering at Egypt Hall, where about 20 seniors came together to share laughter, conversation and a nutritious lunch. Led by a CHATS Outreach Coordinator, each session was thoughtfully planned around the group’s interests, creating a warm and engaging space for connection and community.
For many participants, the program was more than a weekly event—it was an important part of their well-being. It helped reduce loneliness, boosted emotional and mental health and gave seniors something to look forward to each week. The familiar routine, friendly faces and supportive environment played a key role in helping older adults stay active, connected, and involved in their community.
A big part of that success was thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers. These generous individuals went above and beyond—driving seniors to and from the hall, sometimes making multiple trips like a shuttle service. Others helped in the kitchen, preparing and serving lunch, while some led or supported games, group activities, and wellness sessions. Their energy, reliability, and kindness made each gathering feel special.
When the pandemic hit, the program was paused. To keep clients engaged and supported, CHATS offered regular social phone calls and, later, transitioned to a weekly lunch at local restaurants in the Georgina area.
Now, with plans underway to return to Egypt Hall, CHATS is excited to bring back this much-loved program—and we’re looking for volunteers to help make it happen. If you enjoy spending time with older adults and want to make a meaningful difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you!
